Beret for Specialized Soldiers and patrol caps for everyone else.

Patrol cap......the beret offers no protection from the sun and traps all the heat under it.

I feel the beret needs to EARNED, not ISSUED! When I earned the black beret and then watched in horror as Gen. Shinseki made it universal, needless to say I was outraged!!!! If you have not gone through a special school that erans you the right to wear one, then wear your patrol cap! I am sure my fellow RANGERS feel the same way I do!

I actually avoid wearing the beret at all costs, only when I'm in garrison and required to wear it is when I do. It's nothing against the beret, but I can't help but think that Rangers used to have to earn it, granted, they now have to earn the tan beret, but it just isn't the same. I'm just kind of rambling, bottom line is: PC

The new recruits know nothing about what it is to earn anything. When I see these guys not giving any respect to the Green, Tan, and Maroon beret it makes my blood boil. I hate wearing the black beret, I didn't earn it and don't want it. When I earn one then I will wear one with pride. Until then I will continue to hate to wear one. It was a great site to go to a training area and see the green and black barets all over the place, now they just seam to mik in teh croud. It sucks.
