Re: Questions

Getting appointed to any academy is tough. Everyone basically described what you need to do. You guys keep asking questions with basically the same answer. Each academy has a description of what they are looking for on their site (Goggle it, or if you are lazy, use field sailors handy links). But just to put into perspective on the competitiveness: my friend was set on going to Annapolis. He was a 3.5 student who took ALL available AP courses and completed the highest available math/science courses offered at the school. He did MCJROTC, Wresting, Tennis, and Water Polo. He scored above 1200 on the SAT’s and I don’t know what on his ACT’s. He got his congressional approval and whatnot, but he didn’t get accepted. He is the poster child for the minimum requirements, but did not get accepted. Someone who did get accepted, our Valedictorian/ Class President with a 4.8 GPA and God knows what on the SAT’s. So that’s puts it in perspective for you.

In reference to you redman, your looking at a minimum of Congressional Nomination. That’s where you contact your congressman and pitch yourself to them in hopes that you will be one of the people they choose to nominate for admission. VP nomination is tricky, you have to be top notch (Mr. Valedictorian got one). He would want to know all the general academic statistics in a formal letter. Then there is Presidential, where you actually write to the academy, but that’s only for children of military/Alumni.

BTW, all this information can be accessed with a little initiative by visiting their website. It even had examples and sample applications.

Re: Questions

Dude, aim for the Academy, but apply to everything else you can. Go to the Academy's web page and get as much info as you can, and go talk to your school counselor, tell him/her you want to get into west point, he/she should be able to help you out.
