Re: Questions
Academy appointments are extremely competitive. Take upper level courses. Physics, Algebra and trigonometry, any AP classes your school offers. It doesn't end there though. They want well rounded people. Join school clubs, sports, etc. If you go to the West Point web site it will give you a more detailed view of what is looked for. Get politically active as well. Remember, academy appointments are made primarily by your congressmen/women and senators.

Re: Questions
Big things are you are not allowed to have any dependents. You must receive an appointment from your congressman/senator. From the one person, I have talked to you need community service, and "school involvement." Grades are important but not great big deal. There is a Prep school, however remember it is very competitive.

Re: Questions
well rotc isn't exactly a walk in the park either[the scholarship atleast.] One college AFROTC cadet came to my school[were afjrotc] and said getting the ROTC scholaship is just as competive as westpoint or aif force academy because the have the same qualifications. You must score atleast a 1100 on SAT's or 20-23 on ACT. You must be a good morally rounded person.

Re: Questions
For a ROTC scholarship (at least back in '99) you had to have at least a 22 in math and science. You needed an interview, etc... It was not that hard really, I would have to say it is a lot less competitive than the Academies. Grades are actually a little higher influence in ROTC than the Academies unless everyhthing else is REALLY high.

Re: Questions
Should be in your scholarship packet... i had a 29 ACT and wan't initially accepted into the AF academy... I was asked by a recuiter via phone to go (they would set up an appointment congressionally for me) but I decided to go to a high end AROTC school... remember... you give up "college life" for an academy... so choose wisely... if you want to be an academic robot... go academy... otherwise, learn time management and other skills through ROTC...

Re: Questions
After the Plebe year, The academy gets off time, and they party pretty hard. Going to Annapaolis on the weekend can be a lot of fun. (maybe it's just the Navy though).
I'm assuming that you are interested in AROTC, rite: here is the list for AF school click this and for anyone else who needs it her is the list for the Navy Hope it helps... -Rich |

Re: Questions
Where do you want to go? Academy v. ROTC, that's your decision. Do you want a technical degree or something else (College is not just a route to becoming an Officer, they also teach, lol)? Academies are free, You have to pay for college. Even with a scholarship, you may end up paying for something (MAYBE, depending on the school).
Just to confuse you a little more, there is the best of both worlds, there is the Citadel and schools like it. Covert may be able to help you with info those. I would apply to both, there is no Guarantee that you'll get a slot in the Aademies. They are very very competitive. -Rich |

Re: Questions
Wrong again. Have a positive attitude. You can make it. I like to think "if one other person has done, why can't I" or "if no one has done it, I might as well be first."
Anyway, yes you will have to have a Major. The academies are Accreditred Colleges. -Rich |
