Re: Robin Sage
got back about a week and a half ago. It was great, learned a lot. Any of you guys want to get ready for camp? Go to Robin Sage. Got to be the best hands-on training I've gotten. met some cool people too.

Re: Robin Sage
I did field excersizes called "Robin Sage" back in the early 80's. It was part of the US Army Special Forces training and they used Marines as "training aids" as in aggressors and guerrillas and such.
I did it once as a guerilla, once as part of the counter guerilla force and once as part of the interogator staff. (I was an OJT trainee, not a real interogator) It took place in and around the Ashville NC area. That the same program you are talking about? -Mac |

Re: Robin Sage
It indeed is the same. They decided that it was better to send some cadets than to pull more joes off of training to help out with SF training. It's not ALL cadets that are there... but they fill in some gaps.

Re: Robin Sage
That was some good training time. I think it's fantastic that they're involving younger volunteers in the training.
Man, when I was playing down there (as differentiated from the SF guys that were really working their cans off) the entire community was involved. We were payed in pine land dollars and various rural shops and/or citizens would accept them in exchange for goods and/or services. Some of the citizens were Pine Land supporters.. some were rebellion supporters. Folks would drop off bags of potatoes and canned food in caches for the rebels..some would stake out the caches and try to inform on the rebels..it was wild. -Mac |

Re: Robin Sage
yep, it gets really in depth, as far as storyline goes. THe whole idea is to imerse the students in an environment as close as possible to the real thing. As long as everybody stays in role it works great. It actually takes place over 50,00 square miles, all over N.C. And this year they had some out at the NTC for "desert Sage". I'm sure that was interesting. We had about 2/3 cadets and 1/3 ANG MPs in our group. Just like everything though, you get out of it what you put into it. Most of us would get as envolved as possible, but there were a few that rarely did anything, and just bogged it down for the rest of us. Our G Cheif made sure the cadets weren't led by the MPs. He had us do a lot of that sort of stuff so we'd get training in that as well.

Re: Robin Sage
no, I didn't hear much about any other teams that were training because we didn't have contact with them, and they didn't tell us much about the exercise before we left for it.

Re: Robin Sage
Opher (or how ever it's spelled, I've only heard it spoken, never seen it written) Is/was a small town in the Asheville area that is/was more or less a "scientific preserve". Seems the same 3 or 4 families have been interbreeding there since way back when and now it's a town of waterheads and droolers.
There was a story about a Special Forces trainee that got real life captured at shotgun point by Ophurites and was held in chains in a basement for months before he was found and rescued. Of course, all that could have been "sea story" stuff to frighten us young snuffies but... -Mac |

Re: Robin Sage
hmm...I don't know. BUt I'm sure they would have said something to us about it seeing as we'd be in that area if it were true. They did tell us that we'd have to be careful in the area because people got a little violent.

Re: Robin Sage
VCU? somewhere in vermont? no, there were 500 cadets and 115 west pointers there - 18 different teams. I did meet a guy from Vermont though - "Mountain". I can't recall his last name though.
