Considering ROTC
I recently joined and am an Infantryman. When I got my ASVAB test scores back my recruiter said I scored very high and that I should highly consider taking ROTC or OCS. The only thing I am not sure about is if I want to be a leader in the Army and have all that responsibility or stay as an enlisted soldier. I was also told to consider it because I want to make a career out of the Army. Another reason I don't know if I want to be an officer is because I like to work with my hands and don't want to get put behind a desk.
In case you were wondering my ASVAB scores are: AFQT 82 GT 117 GM 120 EL 121 MM 118 SC 122 CO 122 FA 122 OF 120 ST 121 |

Re: Considering ROTC
Well, its all about what you want. simple as that. You can still be a leader and not be an officer and you will still have alot of responsibility as an enlisted soldier. As far getting stuck behind a desk as an officer. A large part will depend on your branch. you cant really guarantee which branch you get. its based on performance/needs of the Army, etc.. all you can really do is ask for a specific branch on your "wish list."
i know i'm enjoying AROTC and can't wait till I get my gold bar. but its different for everyone. when i pictured myself in the Army in high school it was as an officer. where do you picture yourself in the Army? throw pay/benefits/all the ass you'll get, etc. out the window and follow your heart. i know its cheesy, but do it. |
