Allison Hady Public Affairs Officer West Broward Composite Squadron Florida Wing FLORIDA – Florida Wing’s West Broward Composite Squadron recently took a trip to the Coast Guard Air Station Miami in Opa-locka, Fla. The visit had particular interest for the cadets, as the squadron’s Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Patrick Collins will be leaving for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., this July. The cadets were given a tour of the station led by Lt. Lance Kerr, a Coast Guard pilot. The cadets were shown the different aircraft that the Coast Guard uses, such as the Dauphin HH-65A helicopter. They were also given a tour of the swim shop, which houses all of the gear used by the Coast Guard rescue swimmers. The air station's missions include the prime mission of search and rescue, as well as maritime law enforcement and environmental protection. It houses 9 HH-65A Dauphin Helicopters, 8 HU-25C Night Stalker fan jets, and 1 VC-4A Turbo Prop logistics airplane. « Back -John |
