CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
I've looked in AR 670-1, scanned the internet, and even asked cadre. No one can seem to find and/or agree on the regs about a cadet wearing a CIB and SSI-FWTS(combat patch) on his ROTC uniform. Anyone know the rules on this?

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Cadets should be authorized to wear any and all Army patches that they are qualified for with the exception to ribbons. If you wear ROTC ribbons and have real Army ribbons, you can't mix and match... either ROTC ones or real ones. As for wearing combat patches, I really don't know the answer to that. I don't know why you would be wearing a patch for a unit that you are not currently assigned to, so why would you put it on your uniform?

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Because I am in the National Guard and am still currently in that unit. Aside from the fact that it doesn't matter which unit you are assigned to the combat patch goes on the right sleeve. It just means you were in that unit when you saw combat. I know you can't mix awards, but I don't know if I can have the ROTC patch on my left shoulder, CIB above my left breast pocket, and my 53rd INF brigade combat patch on my right shoulder. On my ROTC uniform I currently just have my ROTC patch on my left shoulder and the Florida State Univ patch on my right shoulder.

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Wes, you are required to wear your Florida State Patch on your right shoulder per Cadet Command Regulations. That means you've gotta stow the combat patch away until your commissioned. We have a few SMP's here that are Combat Vets and they have to wear their ROTC unit patches as well.

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Thanks for the help. So that nixes the CIB too, because you have to wear it with an authorized SSI-FWTS... oh well.
At least I'll have my high speed MS II Cpl rank!! |

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Did not know CIB must be warn with a combat patch. One of our SGT's who was in panama wears his ROTC patches with a CIB... might want to double check on that.

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Cadre don't wear their school patch on their right shoulder.....
I believe Cadre are only authorized either The Flag, or SSI-FWTS and Flag on their right shoulder. Nothing else should be put there. |

Cadre aren't required to wear the BN patches, they wear any SSI-FWTS that they may have earned on their greens, and their SSI-FWTS on their BDU.

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Just must be something that happens here then. All of our cadre wear our patch and the ROTC patch on both sets of uniforms. Thanks for the post.

I do know that Cadre ARE allowed the use of combat patches b/c they are usually still active. Honestly not sure on cadets though...

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
Even if retired, Cadre are not required to wear the school patch. Cadet Command has no Regulation on this. I know a retired 1SG who has always worn the Americal Division patch on his right shoulder.

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
I wear my patches from my unit because we are required to have them on our uniform, though i never asked them what to do in the event of this SMP thing. Nobody has said anything about it yet, though im sure if i had a combat patch i would definately have a problem with removing it from my uniform. I'll have to ask about this later today.
As for the cadre, they were their rotc patch and the flag. And since nobody can seem to agree on what its supposed to be, i guess it comes down to uniformity. Well thats enough from me, out. |

Re: CIB and SSI-FWTS in ROTC?
I sent an e-mail to Cadet Command. My Cadre can't seem to agree. I'm currently wearing my unit uniform because they can't find a 7 1/4 patrol cap for me. I'm not ripping the sew-on SPC rank off my patrol cap that I've had for 5yrs.
