Question regarding Navy and Air Force
HI. I am in the NJROTC at my school and like it alot. I was wondering if some one could help me with a few questions. Which of these two branches would be good for a woman Air Force or the Navy? Also which one would help me more with my college tuition? If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

What do you want to do? A lot depends on you. I don't think anyone can say which is better for women, but which is better for you. As far as Tuition, I was always under the impression all the military pays 100% tuition, with a cap of 12 credits a year. I hear a nasty rumor today that the AF and Army's TA (tuition assistance) is unlimited.

::smacks forehead::
I thought this was a ROTC question, not JROTC. Anyways, I was always under the impression classes taken on active duty were paid for, at least the ones offered on base. As for wanting to be a pilot, what kind of pilot? Rotary or fixed wing? If you want rotary, join the Army they'll teach you, now the next piece of advice I give is not to be taken literally, because I am not sure about how accurate it is, but I was told once that the Air Force has an elisted fliers program. I believe they only fly cargo planes, how truthful that is beyond my level of caring. |

No service is better for women that the next. The only difference is the amount of spaces they have open for your piloting schools and how many MOS's are restricted to males only. Talk to as many active or reserve female pilots as you can dig up and see what they have to say. Look at Enlisted flying programs, but if you want to fly anything other than cargo, forget that and go to college.

Not all school is paid for. It's capped off each fiscal year depending on the Service branch.

no offense to the navy but id say go air force because from what i have heard you get more training, not be stationed on a ship, etc. I dont really know much about it though.

Re: Question regarding Navy and Air Force
You can fly rotary and fixed wing in the Army, my Instructor of Military Science is a fixed wing aviator in the Army. That's an intelligence thing though and few people know or look into it.
It's up to you. I'd say to apply for scholarships to everybody. That way, if you get more than one, the ball's in your court. If you only apply to one and don't get it you're SOL. Kinda like putting your eggs all in one basket. As for Army ROTC, the most you can get is 17,500 a year for TA, and I don't know of any restrictions on credit caps. I'm taking 16, my fiance was taking 21. |
