NROTC question
Hey all,
Ive been reading up on Navy ROTC and I think its the branch of the armed forces I want to join. (Other branches can make an argument for me to change if you want b/c ive been kind bouncing between the army, and navy, and every now and then AF.....lol i know, i can't make up my mind) Anyways, ive been doing my research and all that, and I had one quick question.... Is the required service time 4 years, or 8 years with minimum 4 years active?? Ive seem both answers on a few different websites.....hopin you guys could set the record straight....thanks!!! |

Re: NROTC question
Depending on your field. If you are not in a specilaty (nurse, lawyer) it is 4 years. For Nurses and such it it, 8 (can be 4 and 4) depending on the job. click here or here , it has a wealth of info

Re: NROTC question
No it should be 8 for all... 4 active and 4 reserve/IRR or 8 reserve...as all initial terms of service are except for those who are committed to longer (pilots and a few others)...

Re: NROTC question
I’d have to agree with field sailor. The minimum is 4 years, it increases by the type of job you pick. I would also base your branch decision based on the type of job (MOS) you want. I first thought the Navy was for me, but the Army could give me a better opportunity as a MP.

Re: NROTC question
Surface is cool, that is the route getting command of a ship. I do a lot of surface warfare work. Surface and Air Guys are the only ones who can get Command-At-Sea. Have any questions about Surface shoot them over. Note: Surface does a good amount of sea time. I believe you do two tours at sea, one tour shore duty, as a JO (Junior Officer)
