Anybody hear about the new amphibious EFV
There is a new vehicle entering production called the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle(EFV). The EFV is new to the marine amphibious warfare because it has a door in the back opposed to opening up in the front. The vehicle hold 16 men plus the driver. This vehicle is by no means an assault vehicle but it is equipped with a .50 cal machine gun and a MK19 40mm grenade launcher. The vehicle has been said to only be in use for tactical marine rifle squad mobility during amphibious warfare missions. When on land the vehicle's engine only uses 850 horsepower but still goes 45mph. This reduces fuel consumption but still allows for speed. In the water there are two powerful engines that move 100,000 gallons of water a minute,Wow! If you want to know where I got the info look into the April 2006 issue of Leatherneck.

Re: Anybody hear about the new amphibious EFV
Saw something about this on the Military Channel awhile back.
The EFV moves like a speed boat on water. In regards to "opening in the front" thing... I've never seen a amphtrack that did that. Is that something new? -Mac |

Sorry sorry I am not so good with the military termanology. I thought that the AAV opened up in the front where soldiers then got of the vehicle and onto the beach or something like that.

The AAAV or EFV uses a hydroplane to get speeds in the water, and hopefully will be a lower profile than the current AAV. |

Re: Anybody hear about the new amphibious EFV
Yea there are different types of the EFV though. The assault type that I was talking about and also the commander's vehicle which comes with the same machine gun but no grenade launcher. But it has a communicating system that works on two different ranges of frequency, UHF and VHF. This vehicle sounds like it will be definetely coming into play.
