Im in the ROTC program and wondering what i should do i want to be a pilot

Im currently in the ROTC program and its my first year and im having a blast but im kinda worried, i was wondering if any body could help me by telling me what i should do to prepare myself or any tips or tricks to get to flight school, i want to fly apaches

Hey Tex, glad you joined ROTC, stick with it. It will get really aggrivating with the stupidity of cadetland but if you just get through it, its a great oppurtunity. That being said, if you want Aviation the single most important thing you can do is to study study study study study!

Keep that GPA Up! 40% of your OML (order of merit list)ranking is your GPA, so dont let that falter or you'll regret it. Its not the ONLY factor but its HUGE.

As for the AFAST test, ive heard conflicting things, some say its pass/fail other say you want as high a score as possible. I'd go with the latter, just in case. If nothing else it looks really good and your commander can give you awesome comments for your OML ranking. Good stuff. If you brush up on the test now, you'll be prepped for it your MS III year, no sweat. I took it having studied Helos for quite a while and got a 141, which I'm told is really good.

Also let your unit people, especially your personnel person know way in advance that you want aviation, so that they can schedule you for a flight physical. Mine screwed up on this and had to get on 2 days before the deadline, almost didnt make it. Make sure you get on that.

Other than that, just do yourbest on everything else ROTC measures like the APFT, and go to as many schools like airborne and air assault as you can get into, and get through LDAC and youll be golden.

Oh one other thing, get in contact with Aviation Reserve and Guard units in your area, just in case the AD Aviation doesnt come through for you, you'll be able to get a By Name Request from them quickly and youre not scrambling to meet the deadline.
