Jump School Stories

Covertness threatened a cool jump school story, so here's his "in"..lol I'll start the thread..

I was assigned to Delta Company, "The Rock", in November of '95. There were a little over 300 trainees in the company, only 13 of us were Marines. One was Air Force, the rest were Army. The 1stSgt snatched me and my buddy up right away. He said that jumping out of airplanes was Army business, and asked us what the hell we thought we were doing there. He looked at our records and saw that we had successfully completed the airborne physical fitness test a week or two prior. It wasn't recent enough for him. He sent us to the USMC liasson, who recognized the game the 1stSgt was playing.. The Marine SSgt in the office there at Ft. Benning asked us how fast we could run, how many pushups we could do, etc.. We told him. He pencil-fucked the paperwork, told us to sprint around the block through the sprinklers, and report back to the 1stSgt. When we got back to Delta we were late for the initial brief. The room full of soldiers snickered at us. The 1stSgt chewed the room's ass, telling them that Marines might be the only ones holding the line next to them someday, and that they'd better shut their sucks. He admitted us to the company, and I was impressed.

Trainees were required to do 8 dead-hang pullups in front of a "black hat" each time we entered the chow hall. The senior Marine (a recon captain) had ordered us to do 10, plus climb OVER the bar to enter the chow hall. We did, and it drove our instructors crazy. They made us re-do our pullups, but we did them the same every time. 10 and over. They finally quit fucking with us about it, and it became standard fare that the Marines did 10 and went over. Everyone else did their 8 and under. Good times.

hmmmm, you are 5'9" of skin and bones with a log in name that implies you do smack and claim you are joining the Corps in a year. Best not ping on your betters (or anyone else for that matter) until you have EARNED the right. You just went into my sight picture boy, a low profile might be in order.

Re: Jump School Stories

I was in the middle of Jump School and me and one of my buddies went out to one of the local titty bars. We had both signed up with Option 40 contracts and were full of ourselves. OSUT had been a breeze and Jump School wasn't proving to be all that much of a physical challenge to us. Failure in our goals wasn't even something we considered.

So there I was trying to get into the pants of one of the strippers (Raven was her name) sporting a black Ranger Tab T-shirt. Suddenly this walking mountain appeared at our table. He leaned over, his hands seemingly encompassing the entire table which creaked in protest. "What class were you in?" he growled. "We're both in class 14-84 and then it's off to Hunter Army Air Field to be in the 1st Ranger Bat," I said. "You ain't earned the right to wear that T-shirt stud. If you don't take it off right now I will tear it from your scrawney body before I pummel you into the ground."

I took off the shirt. Thankfully I had a change of clothes in my POV. Never did get into Raven's pants.

The above walking mountain turned out to be an instructer at Ranger School. One of his fellow instructors was also there and when I came back into the bar with my new shirt he thanked me for putting up with his drunk friend and gave me his 1st Bat Ranger Coin. That coin is in my wallet to this day some 23 years later.

Oh, and herion boy. Blow is out your fourth point of contact.

Re: Jump School Stories

Ok have a confession here.

When I got down with basic and AIT I had this crazy idea of going airborne and jumping out of planes. Well fine sounded great at the time ( 1968). I was sent to Benning for jump school and had the great opportunity of going up to the top of the first tower ( think it was like 50 feet) I looked down and turned to the SGT behind me and said "excuse me" is there another way down " He said" nope one way up and one way down. Well the next thing I felt against my butt was he boot as he assisted me down off the tower. Upon landing I messed up my ankle and was placed in what was called the "funny farm" where all the walking wounded went. Hence this ended my career thinking about going airborne.

Within the week orders came for me and I had an option at the time " Germany or The NAM. Since way back when in 1968 racism ( was not raised that way ) played a fairly large part of the military still and from what I heard " it was fairly heavy in the US Military in Germany, I chose The NAM.

No regrets at all, got to know some of the finest people whom I never would have met by not going to The NAM.
