Hey I'm a poolee waiting to be shipped out for basic in peoria IL and i'm doing combat engineering, I wanted to know a little more about what they do.

MOS 1371, Combat Engineer

Summary. Combat engineers construct, alter, repair, and maintain buildings and structures; lift and move heavy objects and equipment by setting up, bracing, and utilizing rigging devices and equipment; and perform various duties incidental to the use of demolitions in construction projects and destruction of objects. Personnel assigned this MOS are taught carpentry and other construction skills as well as demolitions, specialized demolitions for urban breaching and land mine warfare.

The Combat Engineer Battalion's mission is to enhance the mobility, counter mobility, and survivability of the Marine Division through combat and limited general engineering support. The Combat Engineer Battalion performs the following tasks:

* Plan, organize and conduct mounted/dismounted deliberate breaching operations at the Company level.
* Plan, organize and conduct mounted/dismounted deliberate breaching operations at the Company, Battalion and Regimental level.
* Plan, organize and employ expedient and deliberate demolitions.
* Plan, organize and conduct route/area sweeping operations.
* Plan, organize and construct explosive and non explosive obstacle systems.
* Plan, organize and construct hasty and deliberate protective and tactical minefields.
* Plan, organize and construct a point minefield.
* Plan, organize and construct fighting and protective positions.
* Plan, organize and employ force protection measures.
* Plan, organize and provide missions essential water and electrical support.
* Construct and maintain limited combat roads and trails in support of Division operation

First off are you a 1371 Combat Engineer or a 1300 Combat Engineer. I am a 1391 Bulk Fuel Specialist. My MOS falls in the 1300 ocfield but I am not an engineer like a 1371. I build pipelines and fuel stuff that take gas. I "Fuel the Fight". There are 4 different MOS's in the 1300 ocfield I think so be sure which one you are talking about.

I'm 1371, i didn't realize that there was so many that were similar.

some times you'll build stuff..some times you'll blow up stuff...some times you'll plant mines..some times you'll blow up mine fields.

Can be a fun job from what I hear.
