Seems to me, as an outsider, that would be putting too many eggs in one basket. Limiting flexibility and becomming overly reliant on systems that can be "breakdown prone".

It will never happen. There is to much of a need for light artillery with Airborne and Airassault. The Army is trying to go to as more lighter and faster force, you can't do that of all the artillery is heavy SP. I'm not saying that theArmy will get rid of the heavy artillery, by no means will that happen. It still has a need on the battle field

I haven't had a chance to read through that one yet. They're pretty scarce here. As far as the comms, I'm still trying to get my own to work. My SCU has been fuxored since I got here.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but the honest truth is not much in Iraq. The artillery isn't practical for the close-quarters environment that most of the action is taking place in now. There are still some instances where it is called in, but a lot of the artillery guys are being used just like infantry. That's right redlegs. Don't think for one minute that you won't be patrolling, clearing rooms, and manning traffic checkpoints. There isn't enough infantry to go around and we are the next best thing. Be prepared. Now it may be different in Afhganistan. I haven't heard much about that lately. I will see what I can find out though.

my mos will be 13D when i go to Fort Sill anyone know anything about my mos and Fort Sill what the houses are like because im getting married to my girlfriend after basic so i guess we will be living in a house.

You wil not be at Ft Sill long enough to get a house. Just wait until you are at your first unit, it will not be that long.

What little is being used will be light. It's not a good place to be for mech to operate.

Wow! It has been awhile since I was here last. Comms, and the compatibility between units, was always a weak point in every unit I was in. There are much easier ways to connect the TOC, FDC, mortars and big guns, but the Army hasn't been to willing to upgrade yet in this area. Seeing what the JTACs from the Air Force had to work with compared to our FECC, it's frustrating to know how easy comms COULD be if the Army would just upgrade.
