Pointman Morning Prayer

Thanks Roms for inviting us here. Each day my brother AJ posts a prayer at several sites including our own. We would like to introduce ourselves and welcome everyone to share here. Pointman is an international Christian ministry which has been in existance since 1984. Originally it was started by Vietnam Vets for Vietnam Vets but has expanded to include all vets from all wars and peacetime, and thier families. Our primary goal is to address the spiritual implications of PTSD. However we do have shelters for homeless vets and do stand downs and other activities such as conferences. All our services are free. We have over three hundred small groups world wide called Outposts.

Our plan is to post the daily prayer and a short message on Sunday.

Teach Me to Pray

My Lord, I know not what I ought to ask of Thee.
Thou and Thou alone knowest my needs.
Thou lovest me more than I am able to love Thee.
O Father, grant unto me, Thy servant, all which I cannot ask.
For a cross I dare not ask, nor for consolation;
I dare only to stand in Thy presence.
My heart is open to Thee.
Thou seest my needs of which I myself am unaware.
Behold and lift me up!
In Thy presence I stand,
awed and silenced by Thy will and Thy judgments,
into which my mind cannot penetrate.
To Thee I offer myself as a sacrifice.
No other desire is mine but to fulfill Thy will.
Teach me how to pray.

I am the Savior of all people, says the Lord. Whatever their troubles, I will answer their cry, and I will aways be their Lord.

Lord Jesus, we come before you this day mindful of all who work in our world. Many people strive to earn a just salary, to provide for their families and to share their resources with others who are in need. As people across the country take time this day to celebrate their joy in having a job we give you thanks for our jobs, our ministries and for the organizations who help those unemployed to find jobs. Amen.

To the Lord belongs the earth and all that fills it. (Ps 24)

Lord Jesus, we come before you this day believing in your mercy. As we journey in this life, we are reminded of how much we are in need of your mercy and forgiveness. Help us to turn towards you when we have sinned and ask for your forgiveness and for your healing presence in our lives. Amen.

O Lord, you have given everything its place in the world, and no one can make it otherwise. For it is your creation, the heavens and the earth and the stars: you are the Lord of all.

God our creator, we come before you this day in praise and worship for the marvels of your creation. All of nature sings of your glory. May we always come before you in prayer, mindful of your greatness and to give praise and glory to the creation which you have blessed us with in our lives. Amen.

If you, O Lord, laid bare our guilt, who could endure it? But you are forgiving, God of Israel. (Ps 129)

Father in heaven, your hand guides our every move. We come before you this day in need of your guidance in our lives and ask you to give us the graces we need to live according to your word. As we walk this journey in life, may we always turn to you for guidance and may we always recognize your hand guiding us along the path. Amen.

Guide Us in Our Work

Almighty God, who hast so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to Live With Grace

May we discover through pain and torment,
the strength to live with grace and humor.
May we discover through doubt and anguish,
the strength to live with dignity and holiness.
May we discover through suffering and fear,
the strength to move toward healing.
May it come to pass that we be restored to health and to vigor.
May Life grant us wellness of body, spirit, and mind.
And if this cannot be so, may we find in this transformation and passage
moments of meaning, opportunities for love
and the deep and gracious calm that comes
when we allow ourselves to move on.

Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek always the face of the Lord. (Ps 104)

Praised be you, God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no power for good which does not come from your covenant, and no promise to hope in, that your love has not offered. Strengthen our faith to accept your covenant and give us the love to carry out your command. Amen.

Do not abandon me, Lord. My God, do not go away from me! Hurry to help me, Lord, my Savior. (Ps 37)

God of compassion, we are in great need of your loving presence in our lives. In this hour of darkness, hear our prayers as we cry out to you in our pain, confusion and fear. We hunger for your wisdom to nourish us with strength and encourage as we struggle to make sense out of the tragedies which have befallen us on this date that will always be remembered. We thirst for the spring of life-giving waters, which purify and sanctify life as the pain and anguish are overwhelming. In your Son's earthly life, he gave us the Beatitudes to guide us along our journey. May we draw new life from the examples he gave of how to respond to life's situations and to focus our attention on the greater good of all. May we become prayerful people full of hope, peace and love. So the words, "A world at prayer is a world at peace", will echo true in all your people. Amen.
