Any insight on the day to day of 98G or 98C?
I'm thinking about enlisting in that MOS but I'm curious to know what it actually entails. Like is it a building with no windows all day or sitting in a plane or what? I'm sure it can vary obviously but I'm curious about the first 4 year period and what it entails. I've also noticed from attempting to research a bit that it seems to have a high physical demand profile and I'm wondering what that is for - as in lugging equipment around or what? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. This is a great site for people looking for a little info devoid of recruiting tactics. Cheers.

Well the easy answer is yes. Both MOS's work both in buildings with no windows and in planes/Helocopters and in the open air. The job depends a lot on where you are and what unit you're assigned to. Day-to-day, you will work a lot with computers and other electronic equipment. You learn a lot about evaluating and analysis. There are a lot of opportunities for those MOS's, I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more pointed questions if you need.

Re: Any insight on the day to day of 98G or 98C?
Field Sailor is right about where you are working--but you need to consider what it is that you want to do. 98G's are the Listeners: they generally intercept foreign voice transmissions, so you will have to learn a language (the Army will send you to the training). 98C's are the Analyizers: they take what the 98G's intercept (as well as other MOS's) and they make use of the intelligence information. You'll probably do a lot more tactical stuff as a 98G than a 98C, but that doesn't mean that you won't get deployed as a 98C. I have a lot of friends who are deployed right now in the field. Both are good jobs, you just need to determine what it is that you want to do. Also, you need to consider if you are actually a good listener or not. If your mind wanders off in conversations...being a 98G probably isn't a good choice for you.
