Re: I get to be first!
Next Jan or Feb I apply to OCS & will put Intel as my #1, but i also have to pick an enlisted job, so i'm debating on counter intel & a couple non intel related mos'. I've heard varying things on which enlisted intel jobs are interesting & which aren't. Thats my story so far.

If you are good at languages, being a Marine Linguist is a good job. I have worked with several of them and they all love it.

Re: I get to be first!
Yes I did, if someone in here has a problem with me being in here, I'll leave. In a couple months I will be working with Marine and Army units out of Fort Meade. Deploying and working right beside them. That's one of the reasons I am in here. I figure if I can fight beside them I can be in their forum.

Re: I get to be first!
What he means is why are you talking about being a Marine Linguist? He is in the US Army's College First program and thats why he said that.

Re: I get to be first!
Roger and noted. The reason I said that was because all the Linguist train together. And with the jobs being so close, I could give some insight on the Linguist that I know. Wanting to be a Soldier I'm sure he can relate to a Marine linguist a lot more than if I talked about a Navy linguist.

Re: I get to be first!
Field, I appreciate your willingness to give insight & admit my statement was made on the belief that you were confused of my affiliation. I have no beef w/ any members of a different service, sorry if you read it that way. Also, i believe my response may have been out of line (could have phrased it better).
BTW more interested in various intel positions, instead of linguist |

Re: I get to be first!
I really can't help you out here either. I have seen a lot of MI 2LT's go from my ROTC unit, and I hung out with a 96B for a while in a reserve unit (he did security clearances the WHOLE time). So, I guess the whole point of this message is to say I don't know much about the enlisted side of this other than what you can watch at goarmy.com with the vidoes about each job.

Re: I get to be first!
I can help you out on the enlisted side. Keep in mind I'm a little biased when it comes to my MOS. Ok, here goes. The 96 CMF are all analysits. The do not do any of the collection, they receive products and put their spin on them. If you are a methodical person that does not crave lots of job excitement, not a bad field. The 97 CMF (HUMINT) are collectors. The Counter Intell is good, but the young guys don't get to go play James Bond, and to be honest, without a language they are pretty much useless. The Interrigator side of the house is much more exciting, but for some strange reason MI does not always assign them by language, that is why we had Korean linguists trying to work in Iraq. The 98 CMF is SIGINT. Of all the MOS's in that field, only 98G are collectors. The rest of the guys analyze the information we pass them. 98G is very interesting, and the assignments range from National level to Special Operations. Language school at Monterey is a great experience. I have been there twice, basic and intermediate Arabic. I was also an AIT instructor, so I have grown to love the job. It is a mentally demanding job, and can be even more physically demanding. Hope that helps, if you have any questions about specific MOSs, give a shout, I'm well versed in MI speak.
