Re: current US Army weapon
As far as i know most of the Army still has the A2, but the M4 is starting to phase it out starting with SF, ranger, and Airborne units. just my .02.

Re: current US Army weapon
Hold on a sec. No offense guys but if your not in the Army don't throw out info based on what you "know".
Currently there are still alot of A2's out there. They're trying to replace them with A4's and M4's. Most (but not all) Infantry units will have M4's. Alot of the pics you're talking about are non Infantry guys carrying A2's. A qucik way to tell is the rest of their gear as to wether or not they're grunts. Any 11B can tell anohter 11B. Within a few yeares the XM8 will start to flow in replacing the M4's. The M4's will then go to folks with A2's until those can be replaced, etc... So is the way of life in military weapons. About 10 years from now the Marines will probably be carrying M4's... -JR |

Re: current US Army weapon
In my unit, most of the combat guys are assigned M4s. The M16 A2s are handed out to the support MOS's. This is pretty common to most units in my experience. And like Jr said, the new XM8 is going to be replacing the M4s soon and the cycle will start all over, with the older weapons going to support MOS's.

Re: current US Army weapon
Don't know what is happening but I know that for some reason SIG of Switzerland is running a full push to propose a modified version of our StG90 (SIG SG 550) as replacement of Armalite derivatives in lieu of the XM8.
This I know as all presentations of weapons at Swiss weapon shows have dried out, full push is in America now. Anyone can confirm news? |

Re: current US Army weapon
wow I know I really dont need to add anymore on this subject, but I am currently in theater and as what has been said before, the current issue to combat units is the M4 where as the current issue to support is A2's. The M4 we use is issued with a paq system on it either, 4 or 15's and we use m68 cco's or Acogs with back up Iron sights. I can post a pic of my weapon on here later.
