Why do we get the big green weenie?

Alright so our unit got stuck far away (like 30 minutes away) from the chowhall but they didn't want to give us per diem because they said we could still go to the chowhall. But then us at night crew have a hard time going over there. Then they tell us we can't go in there in our coveralls that we can only be in cammies or civilian attire. Then you look at some of the AF people that walk in wearing flipflops and some tank top. They love to give us the big green weenie huh?

Well putting up with this shit is just one of those things that Marines put up with. I guess years from now when a new Devil Dog says the same shit I will be telling them, "Well back when I was there in 2006......"

Spongie, it's all part of being who you are. It only feels strange cause there's "others" around to contrast yourself against.

On the chow hall deal, the eateries out in town are still open? If so, maybe y'all can organize "chow runs". Cut some snuffie loose with everyone's chow order from a selected eatery and have him fetch it. Fried rice, yaky soba, omu rice, etc etc can go along way to staving off starvation for not a lot of dough.

I used to make some decent cash sneaking off base during typhoon lock-downs on chow runs.

How were you able to sneak off during that time? Don't they lock everything down and you could only go to the chowhall and back while wearing a flack and cavlar?

LOL yeah. But I was a grunt, remember? Grunts get to do lots of infiltration/exfiltration training (at least we did back then).

I was at Camp Schwab and used to sneek out down near the beach. Those were the first of the MP stations to be shutdown during bad storms.

The barrier reef kept the waves from being real bad but I'd still have to pay attention and do the dashes between the surges.

There was only one place along the run where the terrain actually forced me down onto the beach itself. It was only about 20 yards long but it was the scariest part in the bad storms.

I was making $10.00 profit per order and wouldn't go without at least 5 orders, so the money was pretty good.

I think I know where you snuck out. Was that down near the parade field. They closed down the chow hall when I was there and it was C-Rats for us. It was pretty cool since we could sleep all day if we wanted. They did not even hold reville on us.

That was a parade field? I didnt even know Schwab had a parade field. I thought it was a football field that just didnt get shaped right.

Oh and Spongie, this was a few years before kevlar. Which reminds me, how do you youngins in the grunts manage to spend any time in the field training without having a pot to wash your socks and skivvy drawrs in?

I always see enlisted doing some crazy stuff and getting in trouble while having fun. But I never see any officers doing anything. Do officers even party?
