Military Police
I guess that since nobody else has posted here, I will be the first. Are there anyother members that are former or present MP's? Just wanted to know.

Re: Military Police
Is being a MP anything like being a civilian police officer? I heard a rumor that it is nothing like it. Is this true? For anyone who became a cop after being a MP.

Re: Military Police
I know government and state police agencies prefer us Infantry type to MP's.... In fact some just plain steer clear of 'em. So there must be some truth to it.
Maybe it's like in basic when you get guys that "think" they know how to shoot b/c they been doin it all their life... yet, they are horrible marksmen b/c they have all these bad habits... Probably something along those lines... MP's having to re-learn the system and having difficulties... Just a thought -JR |

Re: Military Police
Thanks RR! I was just curious being that I want to join the National Guard, but I'm also in the process of trying to become a cop. I have tests coming up and if they don't go well I'm going to sign up for the guard. Just that I was torn between an MP or Artillery.

Re: Military Police
As for being hard to come from being an MP to being a civilian police officer, it wasn't for me. I came out of the Army and became a police officer. The training and experience I had as an MP sure helped me alot. Of course that was many moons ago, as I retired from police work in January 04 with more than 30 years of service. I was a Police Chief for 14 years and if I got a chance to hire a former MP, then you better believe he/she got the job. I really don't know what the MP Corps is like now so it would be hard for me to judge the difference now.

Re: Military Police
I alwase thought of MPs as smarter grunts with real jobs.
Unless I was in the process of a drunk and disorderly or some such..then I usually thought of MPs as folks to run away from :P -Mac |

Re: Military Police
Thats cool, great job with the 30 some years of service on the force. I was thinking about some sort of law enforcement job or some related job on the civilian side of things, at the moment im in college and rotc, and of course i am in a regular unit as well, so im sort of looking for a part time job while in college that has some sort of relation to my field of study, though its proving to be a difficult task around here.
At the MP museum at FT LeonardWood Missouri, there's a plaque with name on it dedicated to the 252 MP's that lost their lives in the Vietnam war, that was just MP's alone, they have those all through the museum, for Desert Storm and Bosnia and everything. It's good to have those dedication to those MP's right in the heart of MP land. |
