Just curious
Just a couple of questions. How are army MP's viewed in the military. Is it similar to the civilian attitude of were you are hated for doing your job, or is there more respect. Obviously I would be going to Iraq or Afganistan, but how many european or Asian countries are MP's commonly deployed to? Would it be hard to get deployed to Germany after a few years in? Can you request certain locations? I have alot of family in Germany and I would like to work there. Thanks

Re: Just curious
Many people respect the MP's although they still get the same look as a civilian cop does becase they do the same thing on base. As far as going to Germany, get it in your contract Option 19, otherwise it's up the military and they do take req. but the likelyhood of you gettting it is small

I know people who got Alaska, Japan, Korea, Germany, Bosnia, Ft Leonardwood (lmao)......yes Ft Leonardwood. One of the guys in my company got stationed there after AIT. One Drill Sergeant told him if he wrote him a ticket he'd write no-go on it and hand it back lol.

Re: Just curious
Something I read recently, I forget where, but it basically said the law and order aspect of being an MP (i.e civilian cop) is being taken over by private security and in some instances DOD police. Just got some new people in our unit and I'm seeing a trend towards MPs doing more corrections type work. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: Just curious
There have been many debates over this. The reason they are doing this is because of the need for MP's overseas. When we finally get the hell out of Iraq whether it be 3 years or 20 years we will have an overabundence of MP's that are combat support, I think at that point they will start to take away the civilian and DOD positions.

Re: Just curious
Like 333MP said, a large majority of the MP's are in Iraq and this has left stateside bases without many MP's. That is one reason that this is happening. I talked to a friend of mine that is a retired Sgt. Major and lives near an Army base, and he said that almost all Law Enforcement duty there was done this way. The Army is also transferring people from other mos to the MP's to make up the shortfall.
