Today is the HEART of what we're about

A Memorial Day Tribute from the founder of Marine Families Online In Action:

Today many here will spend the day with family or friends at cookouts, or camping, or just fixing up the yard. Today is that day off work and school... often the day that many people feel really ushers in the first days of summer. This weekend has the magical way of awakening a deep sense of being ALIVE as the world seems wholly woken from it's winter slumber now.

But there is a ribbon that runs thru this tapestry of life that we are enjoying today. A ribbon as red as the blood of the men and women who spilled it and are memorialized on this Memorial Day. It is a ribbon of finest silk, and each of their names written in gold thread as each of these men and women gave all they had to give - themselves - so that we may breathe the air of freedom and enjoy those things we love to do, and be with those whom we love to be with.

Memorial Day is the heart of Marine Families Online. The core of our reason for being is to remember those Marines, Soldiers and Sailors who continue to fall for us and our freedom to live as we do in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. Can you see it? Can you see the names continuing to be written on that ribbon of silk in that thread of gold?

May today, Memorial Day, help us all to remember the importance of our task. Let us remember, and support, those who are making the books for the grieving families. Let us envision the golden thread that is weaving thru that silky ribbon, and let our eyes see those names as the bookmakers requests come to us. Let our eyes fall upon their names and let our hearts pour out in response. Let us not become "too busy" - Lord, let us not be too busy - to comfort those whose shoes we could so easily be walking in ourselves.

Some here have lost their loved ones. Some in combat, some not. But they know what grief is. And they know how they are strengthened in bearing that grief by the loving support of others.

Memorial Day is about remembering. May we not be forgetful. May God bless us and our loved ones too, each and every one.
