The pilgrimage
Has anyone been able to make a trip to DC or Arlington. Seen the Tomb of the Unknowns? How did it affect you? Did it change your outlook at all?

Re: The pilgrimage
I went when I was younger, maybe 15. It was really amazing. Watching the precision that the Fine Soldiers ahve. After researching I found out so much more. That trip, which included, walking around Arlington for a few hours, The Tomb, The white house, and The Pentagon, was so amazing. Seeing the Hall of Heroes in The Pentagon, was Awwing. That sacrifice! I am planning a nother tri soon. I want to take my (civilian) Girlfriend. I want her to see why I do what I do. Why I have to travel, why I serve.
P.s. The Vietnam Memorial was probably the most touching. There is a small scale one in Pensacola Fl., but the real one is Amazing. I wore my uniform and I got in to everything either free or head of the line. btw. -Rich |

Re: The pilgrimage
I went not by chioce. A guy that I served with and trained with was laid to rest there. The drive in is enough history to occupy a person for a day. We "ROMADS" chose to walk from the family rooms to the site. Not a person spoke verbally. Words were spoken by simple hand gestures and facial expressions.
As far as the Nam memorial, wow! As you go down the incline towards the center something moves you. Just being around the wall has an electricity that draws you in. |
