Food for thought

I just came back for the Vets club talking to some fellow Jarheads about some things I would like some help on....

Why is it that the "average" American knows Babe Ruth, Bill Gates and Mickey Mantle, but only a few know names like Dan Dailey, Smedly Butler and Chesty Puller?

Why is it that everyone knows that where Camden Yards and Disney World are, but no one knows about Belleau Woods, Khe Sahn and Iwo Jima?

Why is it that my 6 year old's best friend knows all the lyrics to every freakin' Hillary Duff song, the difference between a penis and a vagina and what a school teacher can and cannot say to him, but doesn't know that the American Flag should never touch the ground (until yesterday when I saw him dragging one across the floor)?

Are we teaching our kids the wrong things here, or is it just me?

Love to hear what my brothers and sisters think,

Re: Food for thought

I think it is because people in the country have gone to crap on teaching the respect for this great country.

Re: Food for thought

Lack of values. Parents don't teach these types of things. WE Have to pass this info on, they are not gonna teach it in schools. In schools the teach that every war is bad, with the exceptions of, WW II (which was not fought for the reasons everyone thinks), the Civil War, and the Revolutionary War.

Ask any kid at the mall, (hell you can ask an adult) who are the Vice President, Secretary of state, and/or name one more Cabinet member. (HOMESEC?)
