Who else has your name?

Have you ever though about that fact that someone else might have your same first and last name? What if one day they decide to create a porn site using your name? or they commit some crime or murder and someone makes a site about it..

My name is very unique but I still did a search using google to see if it was on the net anywhere. I only found it on a few sites...

Anyhow, just something to think about. I decided to buy the .com .org .net .us .info of my first and last name (ie: firstnamelastname.com) so that I wouldn't have to worry about it. The .com would have been the best one to get if I only wanted to buy one but I figured that getting the main TLD's would be the best thing so that they can't use the second best choices... Since I might not ever use them for anything right now (I might when I get older...) it's still nice to know now one else can.

Note, If you live in the UK or Europe the best ones to buy would be:

.co.uk
.me.uk (used for a person)
.eu
(and I would still get .com .net and .org because these are world wide and the most popular...)

As far as the .name (meant for personal names, U.S. version of .me.uk) goes I'm really not sold on it... It's to long and when you can get a .com which would you buy?

The guy with my name is a big-wig at NBC... so I guess HE has to worry about buying up all of the domain names with "our" name!

There's at least three guys with my name - the .com is already taken. One is a guitarist and one played for the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans. The other one's pretty much a nobody like me

I found a handful with my name including a basketball player, an actress, a political activist and someone who offers "Energetic Body Work Sessions"!

Okay, My name is so common its not funny... I googled my name and got 7,770,000 sites with my name... Realtor, Professor, Investment counselor, Writer, City Councilwoman, etc etc... I grew up with three other girls with my first and last name in the three schools I attended, so unless I marry someone with an unusual last name, I'm screwed if some one with my name commits a crazy crime or opens a porn site.

I have an uncle with the same name, he's about 60 so when he's gone I'll be the only one (yippy). I guess there are benefits to having an unusual lastname.

Another benefit for me is that my legal first name is a nickname (ie: Bob, Nick, Don) instead of a full name (ie: William, Nicolas, Donald).

There are several with mine as well, one notable is a pretty well known painter. Go figure, lol.

I do have to say that I have never met anyone with my first name/middle name combination, Kimberly Christine... so thats the only part of my name thats unique...
