Where will you be this Veteran's Day?

As for myself, I'll probably stick to the local area. I'm on a one hour recall for the holiday weekend so I can't travel too far. I was thinking of hitting up the local VFW post as per my normal routine and talking to some of the older vets in the area.

I'll be participating in the Remembrance Day Parade where I'm currently based and also assisting local veterans at their commemoration events over the weekend.

I will be camping with my Boy Scout troop on an island in the upper Potomac -- we do this every year on this weekend, and our campfire ceremony always involves a cake, my mamaluke sword, and the first and second pieces to the oldest and youngest Marines present... of which I will be neither this year!

I will be singing in a local Native American Pow Wow. Singing Kiowa and Ponca songs that thank veterans.

This year instead of heading on down to the Wall in Washington, will be cruising on the Celebrety Constellation in the middle of the Carribbean from 11-7 thru 11-18

Batgirl - I just noticed you're a (fairly) newly minted 2Lt (Second LEFTenant, is it). Congrats.

I'll be spending Veterans Day with my grandson, Christopher (if he has off, he goes to a Catholic school, and their holidays are iffy), probably fishing. Chris' dad is home on R&R and will be heading back to Afganistan on Sunday, he started the year in Iraq. He's a contractor maintaining Army Sat Comm equipment. He also spent 5 months in Iraq as a Reservist doing the same job for the Air Force.

Anyhoo, we're basically a mil fam; my dad was Army, my father-in-law was Navy then CIA, my brother-in-law retired from the Army, and I retired from the USAF, therefore we are recipients of the holiday.

I will be spending part of Veterans day at a memorial service for a buddy from school tom up in Calverton National cemetary . (Tom was killed in Iraq this past febuary)

I will be working in the restaraunt, where plenty of veterans come in everyday. I will be sure to pay my respect as they walk in.
