Pre-OCS training (Boots)
Anyone practice running with boots before OCS? I read somewhere you should give it a shot, but my recruiters never told me to. I am going May 30th so I do not reallly have a lot of time to practice.
Do they provide me with boots there or can I bring whatever I buy off the shelf? If I can bring my own, anyone recommend a good brand? |

Re: Pre-OCS training (Boots)
They will issue you boots. Typically, if you want to run with boots go down to the surplus store and buy yourself a pair of combat boots -- I doubt that you will find Marine issue boots there.
Whether you run in boots or not, you need to make sure that you're working out heavily now. You have two months, and while that's not a lot of time, it's enough. There are several "sticky" threads at the top of this forum that address PT for OCS. Just a couple of notes: 1 - 90% of the stress at OCS is inflicted through PT and making you tired. 2 - Run. Run a lot. While the PFT is a timed 3 mile run, you will find yourself running more than 3 miles for PT at OCS. Include timed 3 mile runs in your PT sessions, but work in 5 milers too. Include sprints, up hill and down hill running and cross training. It's all about endurance. 3 - Body weight exercises -- pull ups, push ups, dips, crunches, etc. If you're a weight room rat, back off on the barbells and incorporate body weight exercises. It will make a difference - it's a different kind of strength. We discussed this topic before and you may find additional info here:http://www.forum.militaryltd.com/plc...-questions.htm |
