road to a ranger

I am getting ready to enlist in the army some time before the end of summer. Someday I want to become a amry ranger, but im not sure how. What are the requirements to become a ranger, and what is the best road to take to meet those requirments? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tom.

Go to a recruiter and get it in your contract before you sign. It's an option 40 and, once you have that, you will attend BCT, AIT (or OSUT), Airborne school, and then RIP. If you pass the Ranger Indoctrination Program you will go to one of the Ranger Battalions and serve some time working your way up the food chain before, and if, they ever decide that you're ready for Ranger School.

Ranger School = Tab
Ranger Batt = Scroll

Covertness knows all about this subject, and he might pop his head in to answer anymore questions you might have. If you decide against getting option 40 in your contract, for whatever reason, you can always get Airborne in your contract and try for a RIP spot from there, which could take longer. Up to you.

Re: road to a ranger

How do I get it before I sign the goarmy.com said you have to be male and 20-30 years old. I am only 18 I might be 19 by the time I enlist but im still a year short of the requirement. I am also concerned about having a ged. My half brother said he wasnt sure about if the ged was accepted as highschool diploma. He also said that if the ged wasnt enough he thinks taking some college classes and a officer recommendation would probably be enough to give me my shot at ranger school. I don't know anyone who was ever special forces so I don't know all the details. I haven't talked the recruiters about joining the rangers yet. I have talked about elisting a few times with them and have been doing my homework on the mos I am considering.

Re: road to a ranger

I got an email from a recruiter from www.goarmy.com today. She said I can join the rangers with a ged all I need is 15 college credits. I can get 15 college credits easy I planed on taking some classes after joining anyway.

I am all ears for any advice anyone has for what mos to choose that best prepares someone for rangerhood.

11B1P = Airborne Infantry (E-1 - E-4)

There are other MOS's allowed in Bat but most of the Rangers there are Infantry.

I seriously doubt you will have time for any classes while serving in a Ranger Bat. Especially in today's op-tempo.

Why the hell do you want to be a Ranger?

Re: road to a ranger

I have always wanted to be a soldier, and I want to be the best there is. Being a ranger is a personal dream of mine. I know the risks and im willing to take them, and if I have to pay the ultimate sacrifice of a soldier. I gladly will.
