Rangers Awarded for Bravery

One by one, soldiers of the 75th Ranger Regiment were honored for their bravery, courage and valor while overseas. These troops conducted more than 200 combat operations, killing or capturing more than 400 terrorists. "There was rarely a day when rangers weren't closing in on the enemy and achieving significant results."

As an reward for those results...more than 500 Rangers were presented service and combat awards. Sgt. 1st Class Colin Boley was the only Ranger given a silver star, the army's 3rd highest award for combat valor. "Sgt. 1st Class Boley distinguished himself for valor during 3 direct and indirect fire engagements while leading the rangers during an extensive operation."

Sgt. 1st Class Boley says ,"it's special based on because someone else saw an achievement that we all did, and now we're awarded for it." Boley says he doesn't really know why he originally joined the Army, but after 10 years of service, he's glad..and especially glad he's a Ranger. Purple Heart Recipient Captain Sam Linn agrees the camaraderie is like no other. Capt. Linn says, "The closeness you feel to all the guys, I don't think you can replicate that anywhere. You kind of get that on a sports team, you kind of get it when you get a bunch of guys together, but when you're with them overseas, you get a special bond, and that's what it's all about." A special bond that means even more after this ceremony.
