Georgia-based Ranger killed in Afghanistan

FORT BENNING, Ga. A 21-year-old Army Ranger from the Houston area has been killed in Afghanistan.

Army officials say Corporal William M. Amundson was a native of The Woodlands.

The mortarman assigned to Third Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia, was killed on Monday when his vehicle rolled.

Amundson was participating in a ground assault force infiltration in eastern Afghanistan.

He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Amundson had deployed to Afghanistan earlier this month and previously served in Iraq.
