Re: field expedient antennas?

The field expedient 292 antenna and the expedient Patrol Antenna that the Ranger Handbook covers will both work with SINCGARS. You can either get a connector for them or you can attach the ground wire to the handle and the other one to the antenna port. If I am wrong the commo guys can correct me, but I believe this to be truth. The only thing about using an expedient antenna with SINCGARS is that you have to cut it for a specific frequency, thus eliminating the possibility of using the Frequency Hopping(FH) mode. Also, the PRO commo guys that carry the MOS might find this a little corny, but for dummies like me I went to a Ham radio outlet and bought a book called Practical Wire Antennas. It should give you some good ideas. I hope this helps. SCOUTS OUT!

You want FM 24-19 Radio Operator's Handbook. Unfortunately it is also pre-SINCGARS, but what you have to know is that any field expedient antenna unless it includes a fequency matching unit (possibly scrounged from a OE-254 feedcone) and a 4:1 balun, you can only use it in Single Channel mode.
