Officers?
Can officers attend sniper school? Or is that strictly for enlisted men and women only? Also, if someone went to sniper school, they don't have to be a sniper afterwards, correct?
Thanks. Lamm |

Re: Officers?
1. I'm going to go with my gut on this one and say that women are NOT allowed to attend sniper school. JR and Covert please correct this if I'm wrong.
2. Officers don't go to sniper school. Officers are in the Army to do planning and leadership. What type of a leader goes out and leads one other person (maybe) for weeks on end in the middle of nowhere cut off from the outside world? Not only that, but there really aren't platoons/companys composed completely of snipers that need to train to fight as a platoon/company. E.S. |

Re: Officers?
Isnt the CO of Sniper School an Officer and a qualified Sniper? I would think if you are going to be in charge of a school you should know what is going on under your command.
And as far as I know...if you are attending Sniper School then more then likely you are already in either a DM or Sniper position anyway and just need the formal training. |

Re: Officers?
Must be in the grade of E3 thru E7. (WAIVERABLE)
Students must be CMF 11B, 11M or in the CMF 18 series. (NON-WAIVERABLE) That means no women, and iffy on the officers, I don't know what kind of waiver you would need to get out of the E-3 - E7 requirement. More info at: http://www.specialoperations.com/Sch...er/Default.htm |

Re: Officers?
O's can not attend sniper school (at least not marine sniper school, best in the world ooh rah) The officer in charge of snipers in a unit is an intel officer, and No No No No No women can not be snipers it is a combat duty and snipers are in an infantry company, anyone that is attached to the grunts has to be a male. Re: Officers?
Alright I know I'm gonna get a world of sh*t from the Army and Marines but here goes....
The Air Force runs a Sniper/Countersniper course at Camp Robinson in AR. Women can attend, they actually list the first female graduate in the Women's heritage page at Af.mil. .....You may begin your taunting now. |

Re: Officers?
Great response, 0311.. I'm still cracking up several minutes later.
As for the sniper/countersniper school...A-hem... I'm fairly certain that's for MP types, and is a far cry from the sniper schools the Army and Marines send carefully selected infantrymen through. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. |

Re: Officers?
Could be interesting to know that during the Yom Kippur war in the '70s the Egyptian Army had a unit of snipers entirely formed by ladies.
They were the highest kill ratio unit fielded by this Army in that war. Also the Russian Army had some of their best snipers that just happened to be female. Cheers |
