Age Waivers
I'm enlisting in the Army this December. I would like to have a shot at taking the Q Course. I turn 30 in April. I see that the age limit is 30. Is there any chance that I would have an opprotunity to try out for SOF before I turn 31? Are waivers ever issued? Does having a bachelor's degree help get a waiver?
Thank you. |

Hey run by the Roll call and check in. Someone will be along to help you shortly I'm sure. Good luck with that.

Re: Age Waivers
What you could do is get an 18x contract which will give you...OSUT (basic & infantry training combined), airborne school, then Spec-Ops Prep Course (SOPC), SFAS & then the Q course. If thats what you want, why not get that contract & go for it?

Re: Age Waivers
Rich,
Thank you for the advice. I hadn't heard of that route. The recruiter I spoke with hadn't told me of that option. Besides PT, what else could I do to prepare for th SFAS? I've been working on my map and compass work. Thank you very much. |

Re: Age Waivers
Hi J_C,
I am getting ready to head off to OCS and will branch Infantry with the hope of getting a shot at SFQS. Like you, the age seemed to be an obstacle. I spoke with a Special Forces recruiter this past week and I was directed that they are granting age waivers freely - and that a guy who was 39 had just last month rec'd one... I was there because for officer's - they like to see that you at least board elgible for O-3 (Captain). I was told that they are waiving this as well? Any gouge on that aspect would be appreciated! |

Re: Age Waivers
They are getting pretty desperate for SF guys right now so you can probably go for it. The 18X program is relatively new and is not nessisarily suggested. It may be a good idea to get a feeder MOS before you go to SFAS or the Q course, this way if you get hurt you have something to fall back on. That is what i am doing.
PS i hear most of SFAS is mental, i am not sure how you would prepare for that thought, anyone?? -Flash |

Re: Age Waivers
you go back as an 11B if you dont' have a feeder MOS, what i am saying is get into an SF unit as support, get MOS Q'ed then try for SFAS, and if you don't make it you are still in the SF unit with a job, and you can always try again later.

Re: Age Waivers
He's asking for the quickest route to get to the Q course, so going any other route may complicate matters, given his age situation. he hasn't really even been back in a while so this is a useless discussion
