Air Force TACP switch to Army RANGER
I'll cut to the chase... I'm a 25 year old E-4. I've completed 4 of the 6 years I'm currently enlistment for. I'm a USAF TACP. I've completed Pre-Ranger with "go" staus (my unit was unwilling to cough up the money to send me thru the actual course), and I'm also jumped qualified. I'm looking to go blue to green, but only if I can obtain an Option 40 in my contract (So i guess thats more like a blue to gold).
To let you know how serious I am... Not only am I willing to walk away from the E-5 promotion that I will be sewing on in a few months BUT I'm also willing to walk away from the $90k re-enlistment bonus that TACP gives to those who are willing to re-up, BUT ONLY if I can get into one of the Batts. I wana be more than a JTAC... The direction TACP is heading when controlling CAS is for computer gurus and pencil pushers (no offense)... but guys that want to stay in the wire, control from the TOC and use Digital 9-Lines are a different breed than me. I want to be a shooter in the 75th plain and simple. SO I'm asking... Does anyone know what direction I can go from here or who I should talk to so I can obtain my goal? I know you can get just about anything you want in the Army, and theres no doubt in my mind I can be a Ranger, I just need to get my foot in the door. Thank you for you help in advance. |

Re: Air Force TACP switch to Army RANGER
This is way late, and I apologize for not seeing this post before, but why don't you try to get assigned to a Ranger Bat as a TACP? I know a fellow FISTER that was assigned to a Ranger Bat, and he was on the ground in the bush just like the rest of them. Our jobs are pretty similar, so I have to think TACPs and JTACs are going to be right out there on the ground as well.
