Enlisting as 18X - Trying for Medic
I am completely psyched about everything, but I'd like to know what I need to do to get physically ready for the rigors of initial training. I've been told that you are worked up from the level you are at, but I don't know if this is recruiter BS or truth.
MEPS to MEPS transfer (I processed in San Antonio for AF last year cuz my grandpa was AF, but ditched when they wanted me to go open general) will be done in about 4-5 days. I'm not sure when the next ship date is for SF, but I want to do everything I can to be ready when the time comes. I am currently working out twice a day. I'm 5'11, 180lb, and just slightly out of shape. Can someone tell me in general what I should be able to endure physically by the time I ship out? Also... I was mentioning to my recruiter that I scored 99 percent on my ASVAB and he bluntly said "That's not a percentage." I thought I had done well.So... what the hell does it mean when it says "AFQT: 99" Thanks a lot, everyone. ![]() |

I am assuming you are going to basic and then from basic to SF training. If that is the case, you will likely be in pretty good shape from basic/ait. I would work on roadmarching. You'll do some in basic, but not like what SF will require. Build up with carrying weight (slowly work up to about 60 - 70 pounds) and build your distance. You should be able to do 12 miles with 70 pounds in less than 3 hours. Well, that is how it was way back when.... ![]() |

Does anyone know if you can take the Defense Language Aptitude Battery before you enlist. To qualify for SF you have to score an 85 on it. The people that I've talked to said you take it in Basic. My question is, what if you qualify on everything else but get an 80-84 on it. Will they drop you out of the whole program?

Re: Enlisting as 18X - Trying for Medic
Well, I just figured out they changed the enlistment age to 20 instead of 17 for the 18x contract. Which means as of currently, im shit out of luck. I qualified for everything, I got a GT score of 112 on the ASVAB and all of that good crap. Now im just playing the waiting game. Does anyone know any loop holes around the whole age thing? I talked to a recruiter and he said I can get an Option 40 ( Ranger Contract ) with an " Intent to go SF" in the contract. Does this sound like bullshit or is it possible?
