want to be a green beret
I recently took the asvab and scored a 34. my recruiter says it'll be better to become 11x\option 20(airborne) then apply for18x. I really want to do 18x! I want to know is he pulling my leg to get me to join or is he telling the truth. I'm willing to hit the books hard and retest. I want 18x really bad i'm training myself to the limit now. i force myself to stay up for 2 days straight with only eating small portions of food(breed, water, and nabs).
I stayed out in the woods for a couple of days(people thought i was losing my mind)lol. I have already bought some study books and asvab books. i know if i go 11x first i'll get experience, but i feel i'm ready to go straight 18x. |

Re: want to be a green beret
What are you line scores (GT etc..). Don't go about preparing for this by doing what you're doing. RUN, do a lot of push ups & sit ups. If you really think you have what it takes, fine don't settle for anything less. Study up a lot until you can bring that ASVAB score up to standard...I believe its 110 GT score. Don't go starving & sleep depriving yourself. Prepare your body physically & in a healthy way. Not being in SF or Active yet, i can't give you specifics, but what i can tell you is that mental strength goes a long way.

Re: want to be a green beret
i have no idea of what my line scores are sir,but i understand what you all are talking about. I do workout as i said in my intro. It's just that i don't want nothing to hender me in proving myself for that 18x slot!

Re: want to be a green beret
Having a good understanding of your boundaries in food/sleep deprivation wont hurt you, even a little bit. Just dont kill yourself over it.
Keep doing what you're doing but do keep "an eye" on yourself. If you start having probs with tendons swelling then lay off. Tendonitis can put serious crimps in any plans or goals. Get yourself back down to your recruiter and get the specifics on your ASVAB. Treat the situation as an intel analyst job and figure what you need to know and then get to knowing it. If you really want the life of a USA SF then nothing will stop you, Period. Treat the learning aspect as seriously as you have been treating the physical. USA SF do not accept stoopid or ignorant Soldiers within their ranks. -Mac |

Re: want to be a green beret
sorry it took me so long but my gt was 89 and co was 80
it's been so long since i've been in school, butthat shouldn't be an exuse! i went to meps and askedabout 11xwith airborne stupid laison "no airborne slots available" OK! me:"well thanks for your time, goodbye" my recruiter didn't even show up his CO did! nowthey have about 8 recruiters talking to me saying "i didn't get itwhen i went to meps, i volunteered. now i have my wings blahblahblahblah, and you can volunteer to go to RIP or sfas!" sounded like a load of bs, so i told the co i'll wait and she said ok, but "i'm tryin to help you acomplish your goal!" my recruiter say he was sf and another say he was a ranger and is now just regular infantry.both of them told me to just and i quote "volunteer once you're in they don't look at you scores" <-----is that true? |

Re: want to be a green beret
i respect everyone in the military and what they do, but i want to be the best of the best not saying infantry or anything else isn't good. it's just something i've wanted to do for a long long time. I undertsand it takes alot of physical and metal demands, but in the end i believe it'll make me a better soldier and a leader! I really believe i can push myslef and accomplish alot of goals with special forces!
is it true they don't look at scores once you're in? |

Re: want to be a green beret
My advise to you, (and this is based on what you've written here and how you've written it), is to join up as Infantry, Airborne with Ft. Bragg as your first duty assignment (82nd Abn). Once you've completed your first tour of duty you will be better prepared to contemplate what you can do from there. Be advised though that duty as a grunt with the 82nd may not be Special Forces duty but it is extremely hard nontheless. You had best prepare yourself for it and fully recognise the hazards of your chosen profession.
You may not like it, but that's my advise to you. Take it or leave it. |
