Army National Guard Special Forces

I'm seeking advice and info from any Special Operations veterans out there. I'm an ex-Navy ET and I'm 36 years old. I'm in great shape and have done the research on guard special forces PT requirements. Currently I can meet these requirements but today heard some disturbing news. There is an SF unit in my hometown and the recruiter told me that no one over the age of 32 that he has sent to the SFAS and then to SFQC has ever passed. A buddy of mine told me that the body at my age just can't handle the day to day physical punishment for 24 days. I know for a fact that there are many older special forces troops out there. Can any of you older vets give little advice? I desperately want to serve my country again but I want to do it with the best out there. I hate being told I can't achieve something, It just makes me work out that much harder! Please help.

Re: Army National Guard Special Forces

I am by no means a veteren, but i am enlisting in ARNG SF tommorrow. I have heard that most people who don't make it the first time do make it the second time. it is just a matter of how much you want it. Again maybe i am not qualified to give advice but this is just my .02 based on what i have been told.

Re: Army National Guard Special Forces

Just go for it if you want it. Just because most people over a certain age don't make it, does'nt mean you won't. I think that anyone who wants somthing bad enough can attain($20 word there) it, when they set their mind to it.

Re: Army National Guard Special Forces

You're splitting hairs..

When I was in bootcamp, we had a 32 Year old coming in to br a SEAL. He had to get a two age waivers. I odn't know if he made, but for some reason, I ahve the feeling that if he didn't make he probably LITERALLY died trying. Go for it and God speed.

Re: Army National Guard Special Forces

support for now, SF later but that part isn't in my contract. I was going to go full 18 series right away, but i thought it would be wise to obtain an MOS before (hence my 45B with support) that way if i didn't make SF i had something to fall back on, not that i am worried about not making it, but sometimes shit happens ie injuries ect.. Also i wanted to make sure SF was for me before i did the full monty.

Congrats.. That's the most realistic attitude I've read on this board when it comes to potential SOF training.

When I went through SFAS we had several guys that were older. At that time, to apply for SF you had to be an E5 if enlisted and an O3 if an officer. So a lot of the guys were "older". Some made it, some didn't. Physical fitness is important in SFAS (that's a given), but more important is attitude and mental toughness. IMHO. I saw guys that were fit as fiddle not get selected and I saw guys that struggled physically but were mentally tough get selected. Just an observation.

RFleischman-
if you go 18x, and don't make it, they classify you 11 series, so you didn't need to join as a 45b.... ? ... just so you know.
