Act
This is sort of off the subject here, but then again its not.
A lot of colleges require you to submit either SAT or ACT scores and get a certain score on them. Correct me if I'm wrong, in order to go to PLC you need to get a certain score on them too, depending on which one you take. If you take the SAT, you need a 1000 on the math and verbal, and if you take the ACT you need a 45 on the math and verbal. I don't know if anyone here has taken the ACT, but from what I have read the max score you can get on it is 36, it doesn't add up. Can someone explain this to me? I'm asking this now because I am taking the PSAT next month and the ACT in a couple months, and I want to know what I need to get. Thanks, Lamm |

Re: Act
Why take the PSAT (pre?) and the real ACT? Take the practice of whatever test you're gonna take.
The max on the ACT is 36. You may need at least a 45, but no categoery will be able to be under 22. I know at least for ROTC scholarships, you need at least a 22 on both. -Rich |

Re: Act
Eligibility
Must be a United States Citizen Must be at least 20 years old, and no older than 26 on June 30 of the calendar year expected to be commissioned (up to 30 years if prior service, depending on length of previous service) Must meet the moral standards for enlistment/accession Must be eligible for a Security Clearance Must meet USMC Weight and Fitness Requirements Must be a full time student in an accredited college or university Must maintain a C Average in order to be commissioned. Students are ineligible to apply if they have attained less than a "C" average in the semester/quarter prior to application. Students on academic, disciplinary, social, or moral probation are also ineligible to apply or receive any additional payments. Must have a combined score of at least 1000 on the verbal or math sections of the SAT, or a combined score of 45 on the verbal and math section of the ACT, or a minimum score of 120 (waiverable to 115) on the Marine Corps "EL" Composite Score of the ASVAB. When they say 1000 on the verbal section of the SAT, they're basically saying the entire SAT. Here's the site... http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/marin.../marineplc.htm I think its on marines.com as well. Thanks for the info, I figured it out a few minutes ago. I am taking the PSAT and the actual SAT. I am also taking the ACT, I know I don't need both, but it won't hurt. Thanks, Lamm |

Re: Act
Personally, I would go off the Marines site. I don't like a lot of stuff on about.com. I have found wrong info on their more than once. I think that may be wrong info. 24 is normal, I would assume that.

Re: Act
That sound reasonable doesn't it, a 45 on the math and verbal combined. So that would be about 22 on each part.
And, I just looked at marines.com, there's nothing on there, I thought I saw it there earlier, eh. Lamm |

Re: Act
The minimuim requirements aren't that bad its you competition that sucks. I have 4 buddies in the application process. They keep having to goto meetings and conferences. The biggest thing to remember is that you cannot be accepted into PLC until after you graduate boot camp. You can apply before you leave and that helps but there is no way of being guaranteed of being in the program until after you are in the Corps. Plus you have to understand that the Corps has just enliminated the 92 day program for high school seniors (I was the last class to get it). There for if you are a senior and want to do the program you will miss your first semester of college.

Re: Act
I'm thinking its math + verbal > 45 to get in. Compre it to what they say about the SAT. They know the max on each section of that is 800, and yet they ask for 1000. In fact, aren't analogies a big part of the SAT?

Re: Act
Thats what I read, I'm not saying its ingrated in stone. And yeah I know there's no verbal on the ACT, I think that site is wrong, I wouldn't be surprised, so please don't anyone take any of my info from that site for the truth.
And yes, I found out what it is, its 36 pts per section. I'll be going to PLC while in college, not college while in the corp, college as a civi. Thanks for the help everyone, you guys and gals always help me....(tears)...lol. Lamm |
