Presidential Support
Hello everyone, I'm here looking for some information that anyone may have about a job in the Marine Corps called Presidential Support/Special Weapons Security (0300). I Joined the DEP in January and took the ASVAB and all that good stuff at MEPS. I got an 85, not as good as I wanted to do but still qualified for everything except Cryptilogic Linguist cause even with 5 years of spanish I dont speak a second language well at all. Anyway talked with my recruiter about some jobs and that one interested me the Presidential Support, but he couldnt find any info on it when he was looking in the MOS manual. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on it and would like to share. Any response will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Presidential Support
I can tell you right now that even if your recruiter can find anything about that MOS, it doesn't guarentee that you will get it. The Corps will put you where it needs you the most even if you don't like the career field.

I did some checking and still couldn't find anything on it. I might have missed something though. Check out http://www.usmilitary.about.com/od/e...marinejobs.htm
and see what you can find. |

Re: Presidential Support
You know my recruter told me something along the lines of "Oh yeah you'll be at Camp David guarding the president............, or you will go to Bahrain and guard the embassy there(so on and so on with this bullshit)" I did some research before I left and there is some validity to his story.
But I'm not guarding the Prez. I'm not in Bahrain. I'm in Kings Bay, GA on a Naval Sub Base(all males) Gaurding "Stuff" (Yes I know what I'm guarding but I won't say it on here) The exact MOS was UV (PRP) option. Yes this is a "B" billet command, but only if this isn't your first duty station, so it doesn't count for me..... Its 2 year duty station unless your an NCO then its 3 years. Most NCO's come here to pick up Staff. As for the actual work there are very mixed feelings here. Work for some is standing in a 80 foot tower watching grass ninjas for 6 hours at a time by yourself......... . For others that aren't shit bags they stand a COG or SOG post which isn't nearly as bad but comes with much more responsibility. Then there is the CQB plt. Which I am humble to be a part of, and stands just as a react. So without me saying much more I have gone to the Marine Corps CQB school and if it wasn't for me being only 19 I'm am pretty well qualified to work for the FBI, ATF, US Marshals, DOE, and several other DOD type departments. However, those in the "guard" typically don't enjoy what they do, they find it mundane, boring, unimportant(although that is not the case! ), and generally all wish they were in the Fleet Marine Force. This is probably due to the numerous hours they spend awake while on duty for days at a time. On the flip side the way the work schedule works out here we can have as many as three 96's in a month, with one or two 72's and two weekends off. Completely free to do as you please in FL. The weather here is awsome year round and you have enough free time to knock out some serious college if your motovated enough. Research, make your recuriter work for you. Have him put you in contact with people that are in the type of work your interested in. He works for YOU because you are still a nasty civialian. Make him do his job and don't eat his bullshit. Hopefully in the end I'm talking about the same MOS you were offered. If not just understand that there is always two ways to look at everything in the Marine Corps and when you are in the situation, its your attitude that will seperate you from the shitbags and fuckups. Re: Presidential Support
Oh yeah, you mentioned "Special Weapons Security" <---------Thats the part I do.
I also have 3 MOS's. My Primary 0311 and 2 others 8152 Basic Security Gaurd, and 8154 CQB Team Member. Cool stuff but I'm very fortuate to hold 3 MOS's before my 2 year mark in the Corps. Branny |

Re: Presidential Support
As I was.
I was all hyped up by the recruiter bull at the time. Even though I'm not doing what I specifically signed for I am every bit as happy and fortuate for everything that I have done and learned in the Corps to this day and believe I will continue too. There are Security Force Marines in Bahrain but they are not the MSG variety. That is a completly differnt job AND Command from the Security Force Marines. Didn't mean to imply that they were gaurding the actual embassy there. I do know that they are the ones doing alot of the ECP work and they use Designated Marksmen alot also. |

Re: Presidential Support
You are fortunate to be on the CQB team.
One bit of advice, if I may... I've dealt with a lot of 03XX Marines who come into the FMF to a deploying battalion from the security force billets that you describe. Many of them were NCOs who knew everything that you'd ever want to know about conducting a guard mount, but no longer knew their primary MOSs. Whether through your training NCO or on your own, make sure that you maintain your MOS skills in addition to the CQB. This includes your land nav skills, call for fire, and squad and platoon offensive and defensive tactics. It may be that these are already incorporated into your training schedule. Your CQB skills will carry you a long way if/when you go to a rifle platoon. Good luck out there. |

Re: Presidential Support
Yeah, I had heard that before. We try to keep in touch with our NCO's that PCS out to grunt units and they love the fleet compared to the Bay here. They do talk having to be "helped along" on occasion.
I'm really fortunate to have a very motovated TL that is all about what he did in the fleet and as a grunt and '31. He's always grabbing the .50cal so we can break it down and we have recieved classes on call for fire and done patrols. However this is his motovation and its not really something you see in the gaurd platoons or other CQB teams. Hes an NCO that I would want to emulate in many ways because of the way he takes care of his Marines and gets shit done.................... Branny |

Re: Presidential Support
Ok my memory is hazy as this was a minor event, but it might help.
During my eight week of boot camp, all of the recruits who were infantry were pulled aside one day. We were assembled in a vacant squad bay with all the other infantry recruits from the entire company. We were given a brief about this kind of Presidential guard duty and asked to sign a paper if we were interested. We were given I think two days to sign up. When we got back to our squad bay, the rest of the platoon was out somewhere. One of our DIs was in a rare mood where he bullshitted with us a little bit. We asked him about the duty, and he was like, "Look, are any of you interested in guarding the President?" No one was, so he said, "Then just don't sign. It's not big deal." Haven't thought about that since. |
