where's it come from?
OOHRAA I mean... I heard/read once that It comes from a Naval Flag signal meaning something along the lines of press forward the attack, the enemy is faltering.
is it OOHRAA or UUHRAA? Anyone know more than rumor or myth on this? -Mac |

Re: where's it come from?
I know that each service, and even most "sub-commands" say different things. The army I believe says ooh-rah. We say Hoo Rah etc... I think I will look into this though. You ahve picqued my curiousity.

Re: where's it come from?
The Army says ooop..i believe its spelled.
USMC says OOH RAA and has since forever. Navy says Hoo Yaa ..which to Marines means same as widget or thingy. "ya see that hoo yaa there? move it to the right and you'll be able to access that hoo yaa below it" -Mac |

This was on Mail-Call one night, Gunny Ermey said they couldn't really find the source, but it may have come from something during the revolutionary war.

Re: where's it come from?
This subject is hard because there is no way to actually spell out these sayings. Army is like Hoo-ahh, but they say it really fast, so it just sounds like h-ugh. Navy is Hoo-yah. Now Marines is traditionally Ooo-Rah, but I have heard it different ways to include Hoo-rah and Err-ah. I believe this theory, as it makes the most sense. http://www.angelfire.com/ca/dickg/oohrah.html
