Fraternization
Ok, the situation is I'm seeing this girl. She has her heart set on enlisting, she sounds just like I did before I enlisted. But I'm an officer now, and that will pose a problem.
I know the fraternization rules say that officer and enlisted personnel cannot be involved in anyway, unless the relationship is preexisting. My question is: what exactly has to be preexisting? Does being together but not married count as a preexisting relationship or would the two have to be married? I'm not going to marry her just because she's enlisting, but I really don't want to break it off because she has the potential for marriage. Anyone know anything more about the policy? If she enlists, do I have to break it off with her? I dont' have it in me to try and convince her not to enlist. I dont' leave for TBS until November so I dont' really have anyone to ask about this. |

Re: Fraternization
Well sir, I guess you could marry her before she goes to bootcamp. But I've seen a 2nd LT picking up some guys at the barracks. Just keep it on the download.

Re: Fraternization
Pre-existing generally means one of two things.......as in your case, you are an officer if/when you get married while she is not in the Corps, then the your spouse enlists. The most common case is when the persons marry while they are both enlisted and one of the spouses then gets picked up on some sort of W/O or other Commissioning Program. The key word is married, a pre-existing non-marital relationship does not count.
As for spoungie's comment.....nothing ever stays on the download. I promise you if the people in the barracks know what's going on, the rest of the command will sooner or later. -Top |

BTW - life as a LT married to a PFC would be hell. On more than one front. Of course you don't know your MOS yet, but there'll be plenty of problems internally in the marriage, not to mention externally - for you and her. Nothing has to happen, all that trouble needs is someone believing that some undue influence is out there, and you're both screwed. |

Re: Fraternization
Oh, I"m not even considering marrying her before she enlists. Just not going to happen. And I won't go against the rules and just keep it quiet either. If she goes through with it, I"ll have to break it off with her, but just keep in touch professionally and maybe if one of us gets out and we're still single then something can happen.

Re: Fraternization
Hopefully she wont end up like some female Marines. I've heard of a lot of females doing some bad stuff in those fighting holes in MCT. Not to mention the fleet in the barracks.
