Mountain Warfare Unit?

Can anyone give me any info on the Marines Mountain Warfare Unit, I know they exist, and I know they train up in bridgeport near yosemite, but aside from that not much else. Anyone got any info?

It's my understanding that it's not so much a "mountain warfare unit" per se, so much as it's a school to train Marines to operate in mountains and cold weather. Marines from all over the fleet may get sent to the school, although it's primarily infantrymen. The teach you the basics of cold weather survival and warfare. Somebody correct me if I'm high and to the right..

You are correct..........I spent a long 5 week year at "Pickle Meadows" in the early 80s even though I was airwing. The Squadron I was in was deplying to Norway for an extended period and they wanted us to see out operating in that climate would affect us.

The Corps doesn't really belive in having "elite" units like mountain warfare. That is why we don't wear any unit patches. We are all elite. At least thats what they say.
