To fight or not to fight

Today in my english class, I was workin' on a project when out of no where comes some punk asking me why I'm working on "gay" work. I tell him I'd like to get my diploma so I can go to boot camp. I don't even know if it was the same kid who said it but I heard something like, "The Marine Corps is for pussies!" I've never had to control my anger so much in my entire life. Even now, I'm still pissed beyond belief. I wanted to rip his god damn head off for saying that. But I was trying to be mature and not ruin my reputation or that of the Corps, since I am in the DEP. For others who are in it as well, you know the rules and expectations...

I feel like I have to defend myself and others who want to be Marines. I feel like if I don't then I pussed out and let the punk get away with thinking he's hot stuff, and that he can talk shit about the Marines like he did today. But if I do beat him retarded then I'm afraid of what the consequences are from my recruiter and his superior. I could really use some advice...

IMHO, civilians with no affiliation with the military (family, husband, wife, children) are basically scum (with some exceptions). What do you care what some punk thinks? His freedom to be a dumb ass punk is precisely what you are getting ready to defend.

It's easy for him to talk smack around a bunch of civilians and high school students. Tell him that the definition of "pussy" is someone who'll talk shit about Marines (or anyone else) behind their backs. Then invite him to your next poolee meeting or perhaps down to the recruiter's office so that he can freely express his opinion about who is a pussy and who isn't.

You not only did the right thing in that instance but you've also got the right attitude.

If you become a Marine there will be episodes like you've just endured seemingly beyond number. There'll be dumbass's needing a whompin everywhere you go. The ability to hold fire and think thru the consequences in such times will hold you in good stead.

On the other hand, if no ones looking and there's a fair chance you can get away with it... assault thru the objective

I think the idiot is envious that you have the gumption to reach for such a goal and has no life or goal himself. All he can do is try and "dis" your goals to make him feel better.

The worst punishment you can inflict on this person is to let him continue his life with that attitude. You will be a Marine; he will be insignificant.

P.S. In truth, all that high sounding Ghandi-like wisdom might fail me if he said something like that in MY presence. But, really, ignore him like you would an insect.

Turn your shoulder. Your in the DEP and starting your career. 5 or 6 years from now when he sees you and you have a career and life and he is working at Burger King and still living with mommy and daddy that will bring a smile to your face. Did at my 10 yr high school reunion. Everybody was complaing and very few actually had decent jobs. These were the same assholes that questioned why I went into the service to begin with.

However, by all means, if you can, give this guy a makeover --- but dont hit him in the mouth, dental work is soooo expensive

I'll echo the sound advice here.. An ass kicking is certainly deserved and will probably make you feel better for the moment, but it could also screw up your goal to become part of the organization whose reputation you'd be sticking up for. Consider this: The Marine Corps has earned it's reputation over 230 years of honorable service in peace, and valorous performance in times of war. That reputation needn't be defended against some fag who doesn't know anything anyway. Be the better man. Disregard his ignorant comment and follow your path. Save the ass kickings for the enemy, and those who assault you with something more harmful than words.

All I know is that chicks love my uniform. Just when they hear that I'm a Marine they go crazy and have interest in me. Not only because being a Marine gets girls wet, but because they know that I have a future, and potential. I am not going to lose my job right out of the blue. It is a stable job. Do you know what i mean.
