Re: Too early To Be Proud???
A poolee is someone who has signed up for the service but is still waiting to ship off to boot camp. I was the same way in high school. My history classes were always fun because I actually knew what the hell I was talking about. I knew that I was going to jooin the Corps since I was 7. I was proud of that fact even then. I would wear t-shirts and even dress up in cammies for halloween. (The one year I wore a flight suit my ass was complimented by some pretty hot girls). No one actually believed that I would ever really join the Corps. But I left 8 days after graduation. I even wore a Marines shirt under my gown for graduation. When I walked I pulled open my gown and showed off the giant Eagle Globe and Anchor on my chest. Be proud just don't get a tatoo.

Re: Too early To Be Proud???
Well if the Marines have no problem with you wearing their EGA it's not my place to tell you otherwise. However......
When I was in Jump School my and a buddy of mine went to the local titty bar. We were both full of ourselves since we were going to the 1st Ranger Bat after we got our wings. So I'm sporting a Ranger Tab T-shirt having a good old time when this walking mountain comes up to me and asks me when I went to Ranger School. I told him that I hadn't gone yet but would be soon after a little time in Bat. He leaned over the table and wispered in my face, "Boy, if you don't take that fucking shirt off right now I'm going to ram it down your throat. When you earn it you can wear it but until then you need to unfuck yourself." Needless to say I went out to my car and changed shirts. When I came back in this guys buddy comes up to me. Turns out they were both instructors at Ranger School and the walking mountain was just drunk. The sober one apologized for his buddy and gave me his 1st Bat unit coin which I still carry to this day. Wear your T-Shirt kid. I only ask that you think about it every time you don the Marine's EGA. Stay motivated but you have not earned the right to wear it. Like I said though, if the Marines have no problem with you wearing their EGA it's not my place to argue with them. Their is a reason that symbol is respected and feared throughout the world. Never forget that. Your conduct while wearing your T-Shirt should be commensurate with their honor in mind. End of lecture |

You can wear the shirt...but don't wear the tat unless you have earned it...now when you start wearing shirts of specific units or jobs such as Recon and Force Recon...then you might catch some big time heat... always be aware that you are not doing something stupid while wearing the shirt because one of two things might happen... 1. people will think something to the effect "Look at that Marine fuckin up"...they might not know what you are NOT A MARINE but will think you are since you got the shirt. 2. a Marine (i have done many times) will go up to you and start the grinding process...i'm not ashamed to do it.. myself and other Marines have went up to other Marines or future Marines and gave our two cents at work here at an Airport... Remember as they might tell you in boot camp..."There is ALWAYS A MARINE WATCHING!" |

Re: Too early To Be Proud???
I have a question. Some Marine Recruiters, maybe an OSO too..not sure, are coming to my school tomorrow to talk about NROTC and joining the Corp in general. I signed up to talk to them and I was wondering if I should wear my Marine Corp hat there or should I leave it in my locker. I don't want them to think I'm wearing the hat to kiss up or anything. Ofcourse I'll have to take it off when I get in the room, you know...out of respect and all.
I'm pretty excited, I finally get to ask them what I need to know. Also, should I do anything out of the ordinary? I'm not asking if I should get down on my knees and kiss their boots, but should I wear a nice shirt or something. I'll address them as sir and maam, like do to all adults...etc. Thanks, Lamm |

Wear your hat and shirt (if you have one). I wouldn't dress up. You are a normal kid, Just be yourself. Don't pose. Don't go in saluting or anything. Just be respectful. If they are enlisted try to call them by there Rank if you know it.

Re: Too early To Be Proud???
Oh, should I call them sir? Officer or enlisted? I think they are all enlisted, I saw them walking out of my school today, they had the stripes, but I couldn't make out what exactly though. I think one was a MSGT, I think I saw three stripes on top and bottom. And, I think another was a SSGT, and the other Marine was a lady, couldn't see if she had stripes on.
I remember something, I was walking behind a couple of girls ( who I was working on a project with in Leadership class) and saw the Marines walking to their van. The girls laughed at them and said they walk weird and I think they made fun of their uniforms. Just when they said that, they turned back and looked at me dumbfounded(forgeting I was behind them) then looked away right away. Anyway, they didn't say anything to me for a while after that. They knew I was ticked at 'em. Everyone at my school knows about me wanting to be an Officer of Marines. Since I said that, is it okay for me to get mad at situations like that? I wouldn't do anything stupid, but still would it be okay if I had said something to them? Or should I shut up and not say anything since I'm not a Marine yet? Thanks, Lamm |

Re: Too early To Be Proud???
If they didn't say anything I wouldn't worry about it. Call the Marines their rank. I wouldn't want you to call me Sir. I'm enlisted.
