^hahahahaha

BTW, it is pretty damn hard to make it to Recon. My friend tried out for it when he was in ITB (infantry training battalion) and he didn't make it. But there is a Marine in my unit (the airwing) who just tried out and made it. So no matter what you do in the Corps, you can always try out for it.

Re: do force recon marines earn the ranger tab?

Less then 100 Marines get a slot to the Armys Ranger School each year. Only 50% pass the course. It's interesting to hear someone who never graduated from the Rangers, speak of it as vanity. Anybody can earn the title of Marine, it's easy, they pass over 85% of very one who applies.

Re: do force recon marines earn the ranger tab?

Let's keep things in perspective here.

The comment about "vanity schools" isn't meant to imply that becoming Ranger has anything to do with vanity. The comment was directly pointed at someone who wanted to join the Marine Corps in hopes of getting a slot to Ranger school when their job (and performance) may or may not rate the slot -- in other words, attending the school to "be cool and wear the tab" when the slot taken might have gone to someone more deserving and who might require those skills for their billet. That used to be an issue many years ago, when some office rat in the Division G-1 shop would receive a slot to Ranger School over a straight leg grunt out of an infantry battalion.

Now, to address a couple of other issues...

The 50% failure rate seems rather high to me. Just from personal experience, I never knew any Marines not successfully complete Ranger school. Again, it's been a few years.

Also, not to set a double standard, but if you're going to take someone to task for speaking ill of Ranger school because they never attended, doesn't the same rule apply about becoming a Marine?

One of the posted rules of the forum here is to not bash other services. Everyone who chooses to serve their country deserves a level of respect... so let's keep it professional and any inter-service jibes thoroughly tongue in cheek.
