For This Marine, home was NOT safer than Iraq

Ex-Marine Dies Less Than A Week After Shooting var title=charStrip("Ex-Marine Dies Less Than A Week After Shooting"); writeClipImg(title, "http://cbs2chicago.com/local/local_story_119232253.html", "saveit"); (CBS) CHICAGO An ex-Marine from Chicago has died, less than a week after being shot on the Northwest Side. Ricky Martinez, 22, was pronounced dead on Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Martinez was shot on Monday night at Addison Street and Cicero Avenue as he was driving home from a Cubs game from friends. The friends began arguing over a lost cell phone. At Addison Street and Cicero Avenue, Martinez pulled over, and the three men got out and began to fight. That was when Martinez was shot in the head and the three men fled. Martinez had been planning to join the Chicago Police Department. He had taken the exams and was waiting for the results. Martinez’s wife is a New York police officer. Earlier Saturday, dozens of family and friends gathered at the site where Martinez was shot to pass out flyers, pleading for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. "If you guys know anything, please give police a call and give information about it,” one person who gathered said. Those who gathered were hoping someone saw something that could help police crack the case. The family is also offering a reward. Martinez got out of the Marine Corps in May, after serving two tours of duty in Iraq. -Pat |

^ I agree. Also, what kind of "friends" are they to shoot him (whether accidental or not) and then take off?

They are without honor. They will never have the honor that he earned as a Marine> I hope they catch them soon.

Horrible to meet your Maker, that way. I hope his friends get turned in, but it'll probably never happen. Especially there. There's a whole 'no-rat' culture.

Re: For This Marine, home was NOT safer than Iraq
What the heck?! They got in a fight over a cell phone? A material object can be replaced but a friendship or a life can't. Pulling out guns over a cell phone is also a stupid way to solve the problem. The shooters couldn't have been all that accurate either due to the fact that one hit the friend opposed to the opponent. I am not saying that I would like to see someone else die but I definetly would have rather seen one of those idiots die opposed to a promising policeman from the marine corp.
