Uz Slot!?

I just turned 18, and I'm trying to get in the Corps.

Today I called my Army friend, who is on leave back who just happened to be in the Marine office back home (I moved last summer) talking to the recruiter. He puts me on with the Sergeant and he tells me that his boss called him out of the blue today and told him that there is a UZ (Recon Indoc) Slot open for this period (Today-Oct31), and he says that he can put it on hold for me if I sign up to go to MEPS this friday/saturday. So: out of the Blue a UZ slot opens up, I just happen to call somebody who is next to him, and then he tells me that if I join this weekend I can leave for bootcamp anytime from now until October 31, and that I'll have the Guaranteed slot for Recon INDOC, this very weekend.

Is any of this real? Is he just totally BSing me so that I'll sign up there with his office? Or does this actually happen?!




Is he just trying to get me in as his "one guy for the month?"

This kind of thing happens from time to time - consider it the luck of the draw... HOWEVER, don't use this to make your decision enlist. If you've already decided to enlist, then by all means, look into this option. One thing to ask the recruiter though, is what happens if for some reason you don't complete Recon Indoc (you could get hurt, etc). The answer will probably be that you go 03XX. If that's cool with you, do it.

I am sure this is what I want to do, I've been training for it. I am glad to get 03XX if that is what I end up with.

My friend in the Army told me that since it is the end of the month he might be feeding me a story, just to get his quota. He also said that a lot of guys who get the "high speed" contracts end up giving their slots up in AIT/SOI and that I might get a chance at Indoc when just going in as an 0311

Any 03XX can take the recon indoc in SOI if they qualify. He's totally BSing you.

I should focus on training for the indoc, and getting a high enough PT score, then enlist for 0300.
