Corps surpasses recruiting goals

Marine recruiters blew past their April goal of shipping 1,345 active-duty enlistees to boot camp, according to a Defense Department news release.

The Corps sent 1,899 active-duty Marine hopefuls to its recruit depots in San Diego and Parris Island, S.C., surpassing its goal by 41 percent, the release said. Recruiters exceeded the Reserve recruiting goal by more than 100 enlistees; their total of 525 new reservists beat the goal of 424 by 24 percent.

That performance was notable compared with the other services’ reserve components. The Army Reserve had the lowest figures, signing up 81 percent of its April goal of 2,336 people. The Air National Guard recruited 84 percent of its goal of 844. The Army National Guard enlisted 89 percent of its goal of 6,483, while the Navy Reserve also came up short, signing up 94 percent of its goal of 927.
