They're a lot nicer than when I went through the non-lethal package. I got beat the fuck up when I went through that. Anyway, she did the same goddamn thing that everyone else who gets subjected to that shit does. But I guess it's special because she's a female. Somebody write her up for a NAM.

OC spray certification. You have to be able to function if someone takes your can away from you and sprays you with it, so you get subjected to it before you're allowed to carry it.

Well after watching that, I just feel a lot more comfortable about sending her in to the Sandbox. If the female Marines are "that good", I can only imagine how the male Devildogs perform. I think it says a lot for the Corps about the type of people they are able to attract.

Being a fellow Marine, I'd think you would be proud of her. What ever happened to "the Movitator"?

What Marines don't like is the fact that the reporter used what is, I understand, a standard training program, as a PC "puff" piece.

The word "outstanding" has a meaning in the Corps.

She won the Marathon "outstanding"..He became a tunnel rat.."outstanding".
He won a Silver star.."Outstanding". She won a meritorious promotion to Gunny. "outstanding"

The fact that you did something that you were supposed to do is not "outstanding".

That would not have been written about a "male" Marine.

That is NOT the WM's fault she did not write it.

Well, that's forgivable, because (and seriously, no offense intended here), you don't know what you're talking about. I understand that you don't understand, but it's not something I think I could really clarify for you either.

In that instance (the OC training), they perform about the same - which is the source of my annoyance with this thread. "Outstanding", "female", "flying colors". She dropped her weapon at least twice, and her strikes were weak. She did about average - but apparently that's something exceptional because she's female? Like Karl said, no one would have written the same things about a male Marine doing the same thing. I'm not sure whether that makes it demeaning to her or unfair to the rest of us, but I don't like it.

I don't think it says much at all, actually. The Corps makes Marines, we're not born that way.

Being a fellow Marine, I would have pointed out her deficiencies so she could correct them. Making her feel good about a performence that could only be judged as adequate is not going to make her better. The best form of troop welfare is harsh, unrelenting discipline and tough, realistic training. Cheerleading doesn't make anyone stronger in the end.
