Iraq deployment
Well it seems like it's been a year since I came back from korea/japan but now I find myself back on the other side of the world. This time it's not all party/drink/girls it's sand/water/hagees(spelling?) lol. Coming over here was a bitch to tell you guys the truth. We jumped on a C-130 and headed to Iraq from Kuwait. Half way into the flight the pilots decide to do some crazy stunts in the air. I felt like I was in a freefalling rollercoaster with no track that would keep going up and down for about 1/2 hour straight. It was fun and games untill someone had to fuck it up. It started way back by the exit (I was all the way towards the front). Some devil dog puked over another Marine's lap (and we all know how packed we are when we are in there) and made him puke back lol. The smell got to another Marine and he signaled for a bag but it didn't get there in time, he just took off his helmet and puked in there. On the other side there were more Marines puking and we had some civilians there as well and they all were throwing up. After a while of trying to hold it in I could hold it in no further. I asked for a bag to be passed down to me but it was too late. I had sprayed 3 Marines with my chefboyardee from the meals we had just eaten about 2 hours prior. After we landed in Baghdad it turns out that we were being locked on from the ground and were taking fire. I say it was a fun experience that I wont forget but I wouldn't want find myself in that possition again hahahaha.

Re: Iraq deployment
Sounds like a blast there Spongejuan - but remember the infantryman's creedo -- "Even the worst type of flying beats the best type of walking."
Stay safe over there and be sure to stay in touch. Let me know if you ever need anything. |

Hey Spongie,
I've read about the spirals and other evasive manuevers our pilots have to take just to land there but you 've provided the insight as to what it feels like to be on such a flight. Keep your head on a swivel and be safe. Don't forget to give us an update whenever you can.... and Thanks so much for being there for all the rest of us. We appreciate you. Get some Marine!!! God bless. -Pat |

Re: Iraq deployment
Well so far so good. We don't really do much here besides formation in the morning and before chow. They seem to not like to do formations to tell you the truth. Some say because it's a perfect target to take out a whole Marine unit with one mortar and it makes sense but who knows. We are still waiting to get all of our classes and get things on the road. For now it's just calling back home and cleaning our super dirty rifles. No matter how good you clean it the next day it just looks the same way you left it.
